Youtube Has Gone ALL IN on AI
Youtube's Big Bet on AI and how it affects you 🫵
Welcome back to the Deep Dive. Your weekly scoop on all thing Youtube. From strategy, to analytics, news and trends.

Youtube and AI??
Youtube has changed immensely in the last decade years. We went from Pewdiepie and fidget spinners to the MrBeast and Skibidi Toilet. Shorts have taken the platform by storm. Dislikes are gone. Entire genres have risen and died. But it is about to (and already has) change again.
AI is the big new thing in Big Tech. There has been over $1 trillion invested in it in the last 10 years. The big companies have freaked out. Microsoft owns half of OpenAI (ChatGPT), google, apple, samsung and many others have developed their own model. It was only a matter of time before Youtube got a piece of the action…
How have Youtube used AI?
Youtube has used a lesser form of Artificial Intelligence for over 10 years. This was in the form of ‘the algorithm’. Anytime your video gets demonetised or struck or even those handy auto-subtitles? (watch the subtitles on this, they’re hilarious😂) ,You can thank AI.
However, with new leadership came a new focus. Ever since Neal Mohan came in as CEO in early 2023. He has implemented lots of new AI features on Youtube. The most obvious of which is AI dubbing
Youtube has upgraded their AI subtitles system to a dubbing one. When you upload a video in English, it is auto-translated and spoken in 8 different languages. Some bigger channels have access to a total of 34 languages. Auto-Dubbing is available to all monetised creators (the option is in YT Studio)
The other more controversial feature is text to video generation tests. Google recently debuted their Veo 3 AI video model. It looks crazy realistic with one of the craziest things being the interview video that is almost indistiguinishable from a real video
Youtubers and AI
Individual Creators have also started thriving using AI. Just last month, the 3rd most viewed video on youtube was AI. However this hasn’t come without controversy.
Most Large creators who have experimented with AI have come under harsh criticism from fans. Vikkstar123 from the Sidemen got a lot of flak for his recent music video resulting in him turning the comments off.
On the other hand, in the Youtube Strategy space. Many big names like paddy galloway have been prominent voices for the use of AI for ideation and thumbnails.
Final Word
AI is new big thing in tech and will undoubtedly change Youtube forever, but don’t get caught up too much in the wave. At the end of the day, Youtube is YOUtube its about the audience, real stories made by real people.
AI can be used as a tool to aid in telling them stories, but its not essential and don’t let it distract you from telling those stories.
Build up your youtube fundamentals first. Get your channel identity, try some thumbnails of your own, get an idea on how to make videos your target audience will like. Once you grow you can worry about the other tools to grow.
Finally, DO NOT listen to the people who tell you that without AI you ‘cannot succeed in this new age of Youtube’. Its complete nonsense and in over the next couple of weeks i will show you lots of different examples of strategies that people are using to succeed on Youtube. Stay Tuned
